I learned an important lesson for plein air painting – come prepared for anything. At 620′ Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in Oregon. While based in Portland, we headed out to see the iconic falls in the River Gorge National Park – I found it was impossible not to want to paint it!
Unfortunately, the falls is soooo tall that I didn’t have a corresponding canvas that I could replicate the height – I needed that 8 x16 back at the RV! The painter’s “Photoshop” allowed me to make it shorter, but I think I still managed to portray the spectacular falls. This would be a good field study to fine tune in the studio on a properly sized canvas.
