My first visit this year to Sabino Canyon was with TPAPS painters Kathryn Willis and Peggy Marlatt. We walked along the beginning of the Bear Canyon Trail until a huge saguaro cactus pointed the way off the path to a small wash, where afternoon light and shadows of an overhanging mesquite tree caught my eye. I popped up my easel as Peggy and Kathy found nearby sites.
Whereas Peggy is a pastel artist, both Kathy and I paint with oils. Nonetheless, Kathy’s use of the palette knife and her deeply saturated colors made all of our works very distinct. Part of the fun of painting with other artists is discovering how the unique vision of each of painter is reflected so differently in paintings made at the same location. I look forward to our next painting adventure together!
