I was intensely painting at the edge of the 30 ft river cliff when I heard a noise behind me. An dominate male bison (a really big guy) was acting as a crossing guard for a herd of about 100 bison - he was standing about 20ft from me - and was between me and my car! We decided to stay in our respective spots and keep an eye on each other. He wandered along once the majority of the mamas and babies had passed by. Whew!
